I have noticed that too, some of my favorite songs have been written in 5 minuets... I find my most creative space is in the first 2 minuets when I sit down and pick up my guitar, usually the first few chords or riffs I play at that moment seem to be the most fresh.

Me to! But then I lose it. How do you hold on to the moment?

Hmmm,
I guess I just never let go! Laughing Truthfully though so many of my ideas never make it beyond the moment.

i've got a little book of song lyrics.. kinda like a half-way journal. i'll write songs into it sometimes with no music in mind. then when i have written a song musically but can't come up with any words.. i'll thumb through my little lyric-book and see if i can cram anything in there. those songs never turn out great, but it's a relief to put some words to the friggin' music. but, all my "good" songs.. just happen all at once. Music and words at the same time and i struggle to keep my pen up with my mind and i just sing the song like i've been singing it all my life. those are the really awesome moments that make it all worth it.

Don't listen to ryguysuperfly, he doesn't know what he's talking about... HA KIDDING, JOKING...

thats exactly what I'm saying... my "good ones" come all at once, and sometimes the words come SO FAST, I'll think of them then say... WWAIT SLOW DOWN WORDS, and then I don't remember the lyric I JUST thought of, and it kills me cause it was a good lyric...

DANG!!!

Are we like brodas er what???

I hate when that happens to me....some of my best lines are out there floating in space!

That's why you wont hear them in my songs! Laughing

It's truely sad. I've lost entire songs before. I'll be in the shower, or driving along in my car, and I come up with a killer melody in my head and a killer hook for a song, then by the time I get to where I can write it down, the "song god" takes it away from me:(

When I am working on lyrics, I like to take long drives out away from the city and think them through while I'm driving. With gas at 3 bucks plus a gallon, I can't afford that any more.

Hi!
I'm new to this really interesting site and hope that it works. I seem to get lost in all the electronics and rapping in the other sites. I do compose, produce and record quite a bit of my own stuff- more for personal well being than anything else and I work a lot with my pals in the Garretboys band- a local scottish band. We do that over the net as I live and work in the hot and sunny Middle East- but am from Scotland originally.

but to the point of the thread. I did write a song about not being able to write a song- a bit of an oxymoron perhaps, but have a listen.
